CUMBRIA FOOTBALL ACADEMY

      ABOUT US

WHAT IS CUMBRIA FOOTBALL ACADEMY ?

Cumbria Football Academy is a select academy that delivers high standard training sessions on a weekly basis. Each age group has a team which is put together to play games against other academies including those from professional clubs. The players selected to play for Cumbria Football Academy are taken from Cumbria grassroots teams and are recommended from coaches that have seen the players play.

HOW DOES CUMBRIA FOOTBALL ACADEMY WORK?

Each team in our academy is designated a coach to work with through the season. During the season there will be different types of training sessions from team sessions, unit sessions and finally personal positional sessions. Along with this there are our Goalkeepers who get a specialised session once a week. Each player will be given a written review half way through the season and at the end of the season alongside a sit down with their coach to discuss development.

HOW OFTEN DO THE TEAMS TRAIN ?

Training for all the teams in Cumbria Football Academy is one night a week and we add in other training sessions during the summer when the weather is more predictable.

ACADEMY DIRECTOR / U11 & U12 HEAD COACH

I have been lucky enough to have played professional football since the age of 16. I started my career with Gretna and was lucky enough to win 3 league titles back to back before moving to Dundee United after 6 months in the Scottish Premier league with Gretna after 18 months I moved to another Scottish Premier League club which was St Johnstone and really enjoyed my two years there before moving across to Edinburgh to play for Hearts where I enjoyed some major experiences there playing, winning and scoring in the scottish cup final being a major highlight and also playing in the Europa league against Spurs and Liverpool. I then had short spells with Dunfermline and St Mirren before coming back to Cumbria and signing for Carlisle United. Since returning to Cumbria I have set up Cumbria Football Academy and acquired my Uefa A and B license to help further my coaching qualifications. I love coaching and helping pass on things I have learned after playing professional football and seeing top coaches in my career.

ANDY MILBURN
ACADEMY DIRECTOR / U15 & U16 HEAD COACH

Im Andy Milburn. I’m a level 2 coach, now working towards my UEFA B licence. Like many Dads, I began coaching at a local grassroots club to help my sons team, having played the game myself for many years. I’m a hard working and demanding coach both in terms of my own development and that of my players. Seeing the joy on a kids face when they manage to perfect a skill they have been working on, is the reason I coach, there is no better reward than that.
